Federal Environmental Assessment

On Thursday, July 7, 2011, the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (CEAA) announced the Minister's final environmental assessment decision for the 407 East Transportation Corridor Project in Ontario. The announcement regarding the Decision Statement can be viewed here.


Provincial Environmental Assessment

On June 3, 2010, the Minister of the Environment approved the Provincial Environmental Assessment (EA), subject to a number of conditions.

The EA approved a 70 km transportation corridor that includes:

  • Highway 407 East Mainline – Brock Road to Highway 35/115 approximately 50 km of highway;

  • Two north-south links – the 10-kilometre West Durham Link and the 10-kilometre East Durham Link will connect Highway 407 East to Highway 401; and

  • Protection for a dedicated transitway & support facilities.

Final approved design of Highway 407 East

The final approved design of Highway 407 East consists of the following:

  • 10 lanes from Brock Road to Harmony Road, 8 lanes from Harmony Road to the East Durham Link, 6 lanes from the East Durham Link to Highway 35/115, 6 lanes on the West Durham Link and 6 lanes on the East Durham Link;

  • 110 metre highway Right-of-Way (ROW) and 60 metre transitway ROW. The highway component includes provisions for High Occupancy Vehicle lanes for vehicles;

  • 20 interchanges, 14 road closures, 42 road crossings, 65 stormwater management ponds; and

  • 2 highway maintenance facilities, 2 transitway maintenance facilities, 2 commercial vehicle inspection facilities, 3 truck lay-bys along the Links and 17 transitway stations.
